I guess I'm a consultant
There used to be times, when a phone call at 10:45 p.m. meant only one thing: invitation to a cool party where everyone is already drunk (and got this wonderful idea to share the happy moments with you). Yesterday was the first case when the phone call meant an invitation to assist with the negotiations about the sale of the company. It was the toughest meeting I have experienced so far. Twice during the day it seemed the agreement is impossible and we will have to give up with this transaction and still, we will meet tomorrow again. I'm glad I picked up the phone last night.
One chapter of my life is closed
Finally. Moje nedobytná pohledávka byla dobyta. Well, would you believe to get paid when the due date was in November 2006? I did not. To celebrate this surprising event I used this opportunity to do a bit of clean up on this blog. The links that remind me of that chapter of my life are deleted. And now maybe, if I manage to forget I will also succeed to forgive.
Almost Ing. - just the "." missing
Two vodkas, four beers, no lunch. Only the thesis is left.
And Mrs. K. is a stupid bitch.
Studying hurts
The results of spending last three days in the library:
- blister on my middle finger (I am not used to hand writing anymore)
- cramps in my left hand (63 hand-written pages)
- feeling brain-dead (I've read 375 pages of the most retarded book ever)
I reconsidered using the laptop instead of the old-fashioned pen + notebook, but you know, then I would have internet, solitaire, music ... so, rather not.
The good thing is that I still keep my planned schedule.
Trip to the past
Here I was again. Sitting on the red sofas in Paradise Building, chatting with Jiřinka, successfully ignoring the opened book on my lap. It felt different though. This is not my life anymore. I could not help the feeling that I'm only a guest there. Plus I totally forgot how to study (not that I ever really learned that).
Memorable quote:
Me: Have you noticed who just passed by?
Jiřinka: Yep, sure. Apparently he didn't get any new sweater for Christmas this year.
Jana, the photographer
It is a well-known fact that I like neither taking pictures nor being on the pictures. I simply prefer to live the moment and enjoy it than to "smile and wave" and ruin the atmosphere. Sure it's nice to have pictures, but not if I have to take them. Anyway, time to time I am forced by circumstances to take the camera and use it. And even then I do nothing more than pushing the button. I have no clue about composition or camera settings. So imagine my amusement when I got this Flickr e-mail:
Hi Jana,
I am writing to let you know that two of your photos have been short-listed for inclusion in the fourth edition of our Schmap Prague Guide, to be published early January 2008. (...)
While we offer no payment for publication, many photographers are pleased to submit their photos, as Schmap Guides give their work recognition and wide exposure, and are free of charge to readers. (...)
So yeah, I am a published photographer now. You can admire my work somewhere here.
On vacation
I am on my first official vacation ever. Sure I took days off, had holiday or worked from home before but this is the first time when I filled in "dovolenka", had it signed from my manager and delivered it to our HR person.
The reason is pragmatic - I'm having state exam on Jan 22nd. First I thought I would spare the vacation for something more exciting like traveling, for relaxing and resting from work, but then I counted that I still have 6,5 days of vacation from the last year and I can also take 4 extra days off for overtimes (yay for business trips).
The thing is that we just had 11 days of Christmas free time so there is no need to have a rest from work. To tell the truth, I'd rather be there now, especially when the only plan for upcoming weeks is the silence and boredom in the library.
С Новым Годом!
Wishing you a really, really, really good year
New Year resolution
I will blog more often so that I have more things to laugh at later. There would be so many memories forgotten if I didn't post them here. I regret I didn't manage to blog as often as I wished to since I started to work. It's about time to change it :)
Sex doll
This creature was sitting in my office for a week and I must say it was quite distracting. We actually had to lend her a shirt to cover some of her body parts. But anyway, we had a lot of fun. We took her to the other offices and introduced her as a new colleague, put her to the boss's office when he was out for a meeting and of course explored all the technical parameters of this new ... umm ... thing. We even suggested to enter her to our internal reservation system where you can book for example meeting room, car, massage or sauna.
The reason why our boss bought her was that she was the main actor in our performance during Christmas party. Oh yes, I thought that once out of @ I will never do roll calls again but apparently I was wrong.
